A Subject Area Committee (SAC) consists of teachers of that subject from each grade level/course and building, as well as a Curriculum Coordinating Council member and an administrator. The SAC surveys current subject area teachers, analyzes the survey results for duplication, gaps and alignment, interviews subject area teachers, then revises/rewrites district curriculum. CLI consultant Stacey Bruton emphasizes that the documents the SAC creates should be considered “living” documents that will change as teachers see the need or as outcomes change.
The Social Studies SAC revised/rewrote the K-12 social studies curriculums in 2014-2015. In 2015-2016, social studies teachers implemented and validated their new curriculum. During the 2016-2017 school year, high school teachers will implement and validate two new curriculums as all teachers write assessments.
