A Subject Area Committee (SAC) consists of teachers of that subject from each grade level/course and building, as well as a Curriculum Coordinating Council member and an administrator. The SAC surveys current subject area teachers, analyzes the survey results for duplication, gaps and alignment, interviews subject area teachers, then revises/rewrites district curriculum. CLI consultant Stacey Bruton emphasizes that the documents the SAC creates should be considered “living” documents that will change as teachers see the need or as outcomes change.
The Wellness SAC wrote curriculums for classroom guidance, health and physical education in 2013-2014. The new curriculums were implemented and validated by guidance counselors and health and PE teachers during the 2014-2015 school year. In 2015-2016, the Wellness SAC wrote assessments and discussed possible resources. During the 2016-2017 school year, assessments will be validated and revised as needed.
